Summer Sunsets

English summers are a hit and miss type of thing, sometimes they're good, frequently they're terrible but it would seem that this year summer is actually here. Hot days and thankfully cool nights which in turn allows for some really beautiful sunsets. For several years i haven't photographed sunsets as i had so many but recently i have decided that the sunsets that were occurring were just too good to miss.

New Brighton is, in my opinion, one of the best places to photograph a sunset as you have the lighthouse to compose your photograph around. It has to be the most photographed building on the Wirral and many evenings there are so many photographers there you have to be mindful that you dont ruin someones shot. On several occasions i have jokingly commented that if tickets were sold for the sunset then there would be an awful lot of money raised!

There is a tendency among some photographers to only use a telephoto lens when taking sunset photos, you see them there with their big lenses and their tripods along with a throng of others holding up their phones and tablets hoping to do justice to the amazing sunset, i have been among them too dont get me wrong. So wanting something different, a different angle, viewpoint, look to my photo i decided to take one lens out with me making me think more and look more. Composing a beautiful sunset photograph with a 10 mm to 24 mm lens and not capturing other photographers, their equipment and bags without resorting to cropping your image can be tricky, we all want the same image, we all stand in the same spot time after time until you cant tell who's image is who's.

I'm hoping that by using a wide angle lens i am creating something different to look at. I like the images i'm creating and i will print them, mount them and take them to my craft fairs and artisan markets where i know i will get feed back from my customers.

It's still warm and there are many weeks left of summer, i hope there will be many stunning sunsets for me to photograph in the next few weeks as i think i'm going to make it my "thing", well until the next "thing" grabs my attention!
